Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec "In the Salon at Rue Des Moulins"

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec Salon at the Rue des Moulins
Toulouse-Lautrec painted of circuses, race tracks, and night clubs, I believe this is why he chose another place that people were at; a salon.  I believe his audience could be men looking for women or where they might be, or women looking for a new style or haircut.  The genre of this is an oil painting. I find this painting the least appalling out of all of them.  The way he paints women and with very little clothing bothers me.  There is not too much to analyze but it does show the girl with her leg up like she is a bit innocent and maybe open to men because on her right leg you can see the end of her stocking.  Also the women in the background blend in and don't really stand out at first but then you see that the girl on the right has her strap down some and the other women's shirt is very low. They all seem to have the same hair color though. The women that is cut off on the right seems to have very little clothing on.  This painting seems like its not a salon I am thinking of where you go to get a hair cut but where you go for men or a strip club.  If the woman is leaving and she is dressed like that then this is definitely not your typical "salon."

"Mom, where did the TV go?!"

That is what this is all about. If we unplugged or removed the TV's out of every household kids would probably go insane. Kids are so dependent on electronics. I know if I didn't have Jersey Shore I would just die! I'm kidding but you get the point. I can't even remember what is was like not to have a TV in my room and have to watch whatever my parents were watching at the time, it would kill me to have to watch the news, so I would go outside or call a friend and we would go out. Today kids all huddle around the TV not the playground. If all TV's just broke and stopped working I think kids would be more focused on school, and go outside and play and not stay inside and sit around. If there were really smart kids they would figure out how to fix the TV not just stare at it. My boyfriend has a 5 yr old sister and all she does is watch TV and the only exercise she gets is at school, by the way she drinks pop all the time and not go outside it's not going to be a healthy future. It is taking the nation by storm. The TV can be a form of exercise for kids with Wii or with Leap Frog activities for the TV but not always you need fresh air. The would be better educated because they would not be focused on TV and actually have to do their homework, and doing that and getting a job and getting good grades you become more independent because you would have a sense of the real world. I remember on Nick back when I was younger they had a get up an play day so everything on TV was just that message. It made kids go outside and play and not stare at the TV, if that happened today it would be shocking but worth it. We need to encourage kids more to go out and play or do something for someone else the feeling of doing something for someone else is better than staring at a TV.

Power of Advertising

I feel that advertising has taken over the nation. We have advertising everywhere, on our cars, on our TV's, on just about anything we own it will have the name of the company that made the object on it. Advertisements may not always make you buy that product but make you stop and think and know that it is out there if you need it. Some advertisements are very shocking that you talk about it and that is how they get their name out there. Even online advertisements are on just about every page. You go a search in your choice of search engine and there is advertisement everywhere on the side. Notice how I said search engine of your choice because I personally would have said Google and that is advertising at its finest. Instead of tissue we say Kleenex, or not bandage but Band-Aid, Coke instead of pop or soda, you get the point right? Advertising is a multimillion dollar industry. It is in our lives everywhere and we can do nothing about it. Some advertisements are very inappropriate that we just wish they would tone it down some so we don't find them so repulsive; most things are not "family friendly" anymore. We can owe that to media and advertising.
